Presenting a new artist to the spectre collector label: Old Spirits are a welcome addition to the dark family collective. Essentially considered a dark ambient act, their work has been featured in film and used to provide atmospherics for a number of ‘extreme’ art exhibitions and installations.

Old Spirits adopt the artworks of 19th century German painter Caspar David Friedrich (whose works are all now in the Public Domain) to frame and inspire their music.

With this 5 x track mini album their music is considered a soundtrack for the cover art, Friedrich’s gorgeous and evocative oil painting - ’The Abbey in the Oakwood’.

The cold and unforgiving scene is the stuff of nightmares, complete with gothic ruins, hooded monks and gnarled trees, whose branches claw at the sky.

Old Spirits transport you to another place and time where quiet and menace meet, where ecclesiastical chants are married with electronics and field recordings to create a haunting, warm soundscape of pleasing unease.
